Sheffield to Kitwe is a bold music and travel documentary project produced and managed by Ruth Daniel, connecting the northern English city of Sheffield with its twin city of Kitwe in Zambia via an epic overland journey. Led by Jon McClure, frontman of Reverend and the Makers, the project follows forty consecutive days of travel by road and rail, crossing Europe, Morocco, and the length of Africa, and is documented through film and music. Think Anthony Bourdain, but with music as the way in.
Throughout the journey, Ruth connected Jon with an extraordinary range of musicians and music communities along the route, from grassroots DIY collectives and local scenes to internationally recognised artists, spanning French electro, traditional East African sounds, hip-hop in Zimbabwe, and everything in between. Joined at various stages by musician friends who share his passion for culture and travel, Jon stayed with, played alongside, and created music with local artists and fans of all ages, exploring the central role that music plays in people's lives and communities.
